Firstly, get yourself into a positive frame of mind. Firm but gentle is the way to go.

SUPPLIES

• Empty bathtub or large sink
• Two towels
• Large plastic cup
• Shampoo
• Vinegar
• Patience - courage - determination
• THE CAT!!!!

1. Make sure your house is nice and warm.
2. Place all bathing supplies within easy reach. Close bathroom door and turn the hot water on in the shower or bathtub to steam up the bathroom. If you have a special hook-up in your shower for a pet hose use that, otherwise, wash the cat in an empty bathtub using a large plastic cup which you will have to keep filling with water. Now is the time to go and get the cat.
3. It is important to talk to your cat and tell him what you are doing. Your voice is a soothing, familiar sound and should make him more relaxed during his bath. Enter the bathroom quickly so as to not bring any more cold air than necessary into the room.
4. Unless your cat is very laid back and familiar with a bath, it is recommended that washing of the face and ears be done at a different time. This is fairly easy to do at the kitchen sink.
5. Adjust the water so that it is lukewarm.
6. Fill a large plastic cup with lukewarm water and saturate the cat's body without getting the head wet!
7. Squirt a little shampoo into your hand and gently massage into the cat's fur. Thoroughly rinse out the shampoo using the large plastic cup filled with water.
8. Then add one tablespoon of vinegar to your plastic cup and fill with warm water. Pour the solution over the cat. This removes all traces of the shampoo. Thoroughly rinse out the vinegar.
9. Turn off the water and gently squeeze the excess water from the cat.

THE DRYING PROCESS

1. Wrap the cat up with the first towel, blotting out as much water as possible, then set it aside.
2. Using the second towel, dry the cat by rubbing gently, but firmly.
3. Steam up the bathroom again by turning on the hot water for a few minutes.
4. Leave the cat in the bathroom for 30 minutes so he can continue to dry himself in the comfort of the warm bathroom without getting a chill.
5. When you let the cat out of the bathroom, immediately have a toy ready so you can play with him. You want to make sure he has fun and take his mind off the bath!
